INTRODUCTION

“I Do What I Do” is a non-fiction book written by economist and former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan published by HarperCollins India in 2017. The book is a collection of speeches given by Rajan during his tenure as governor narrates and commentary a he gave the economic and political context of it. The book has garnered media attention and wide acclaim due to Rajan’s highly regarded views, however, on the Indian government’s demonetisation process in October 2016. Economists had mixed opinions on the demonetisation process, with most (including Rajan) participated Having said that, Dr Rajan himself is of the view that the information currently available is not absolutely necessary to determine whether the program can be considered a success. He went on to say that better income and asset tracking mechanisms, including the use of biometric systems like Aadhaar instead of cash withdrawals as an exercise, would help fight ‘black money’.
